Tunisia sits in North Africa, a stone's throw from Malta, on the Mediterranean Sea. Islands are a rare commodity in a country that's almost half desert. However, Jerba Island, rising from the sea like a mirage, is one of the country's tourism hotspots. This Polynesia of the Mediterranean is ringed by miles of sandy beaches, welcoming French, German and Italian tourists. But this island also hosts a more marginal group of tourists: Star Wars fans. Jerba was the 1977 location of the Mos Eisley (a bustling, dangerous spaceport) scenes in the first Star Wars movie. Arabic is the official language of Tunisia, seconded by French. Hawkers in the souks will first try bartering in German because of the sheer number of visitors hailing from Deutschland. Tunisia is a Muslim country, and modest dress is recommended for females outside of Jerba. Islands for sale in Tunisia are likely found along the coast, near Jerba.
