Regional Information

British Columbia's islands are located mainly in three regions: the Sunshine Coast, the Queen Charlotte Islands and the Gulf Islands. The latter islands have one of the world's most diverse ecosystems, from rainforests to beaches and mountains to rivers - classic West Coast topography. The Gulf area hosts a multitude of wildlife and is the world's premier location for whale watching, birding, as well as salmon and trout fishing. The Queen Charlotte Islands are an untamed land rich in Haida culture. Northern BC's vast wilderness comprises more than half the province; jagged mountain peaks, roaring rivers, serene lakes, green valleys, rugged coastlines and ancient island archipelagos. The region is known for its magnificent freshwater and saltwater fishing, canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting and in the winter, powder skiing.
