Feature Island

Regional Information

Less developed and touristy than its neighbours in the US Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands has retained much of its unhurried Caribbean charm. Steep green hills and gorgeous bays offer views of other islands and sailboats on the horizon. A few of the BVI's 60 islands are privately owned - Richard Branson liked the BVI so much that he bought Necker Island and opened a private island resort. Other private islands in the BVI offer nature preserves or small peaceful resort accommodation. Visitors soon discover pristine palm-fringed beaches, rugged peaks, and rich vegetation. There's ample opportunity to explore other islands, colourfully named for their colourful past: Fallen Jerusalem, Ginger Island, Great Camanoe, Round Rock and Scrub Island. Some islands are uninhabited and designated as National Parks.
