Bute Island

This beautiful private Island known as Bute Island is located on the north side of Ladysmith Harbour (aka Oyster Harbour) (48°58’N., 123°45’W) and is approached through Stuart Channel.

The Island

The island of 2.22 acres (0.898 hectares) is in its beautiful natural state with a great variety of native plants, flowers and trees such as Arbutus (aka Madrona), Oak, Juniper, Cedar and Fir. There is a substantial dock (see below) and several good beaches with clams and oysters. The area is considered to have a warm climate and offers excellent swimming. There is also a great variety of marine and bird life. The level low bank Island has numerous possible building sites (Islands Trust jurisdiction) with great views and ideal south and west exposures. Bute Island is easily reached by private boat or seaplane.

Dock-Aquatic Lands Licence (Foreshore Lease)

There is a wharf-jetty (in need of some attention) and a good concrete and wood dock approximately 40 feet x 12 feet (12.2 x 3.7 metres) - Offering all tide and all weather use!

Domestic water

There is a Right of Way from the island to Vancouver Island (Talkynah Creek) for water.

Location

Bute Island is located only a short distance from the historic Town of Ladysmith (49th parallel) with a Population of about 7,200. The area has several marinas, and marine related facilities, shopping, recreation facilities, parks, restaurants and many other amenities. Ladysmith is equidistant (23 kilometers/14 miles approximately) between Chemanius and City of Nanaimo (population 75,000). Namaimo is serviced by BC Ferries to Vancouver (Tsawwassen) and Horseshoe Bay (Vancouver) plus Nanaimo Airport (Cassidy) serviced by several airlines. Ladysmith is about 88 kilometers (55 miles) north of Victoria — see map and chart to the right. The Island would also be suitable for joint or group ownership!
