Spectacular 60 acre island, located between Deer Isle and Blue Hill, on the outermost edge of the Merchants Row archipelago between Deer Isle and Isle au Haut. In an area of legendary beauty, these are prime cruising grounds within view of the Camden Hills and Acadia National Park. Nicely crowned island features bold ledges, open meadows, and grazing sheep. Views west to the Camden Hills, northeast to Cadillac Mountain and Acadia National Park.
Fog Island has approximately seven thousand feet of varied oceanfront including bold granite ledges, a south facing cove with gravel and sand beach and open meadows dispersed between woodland areas.
Property: Approximately 60 acres in size, Fog Island is unique mixes of open areas consisting of meadow's and open ledge, and wooded land forested with a mixture of spruce and hardwood. An old foundation can be found, as well as an old hand dug well as this island had several families living here at the turn of the century.
Fog Island is protected by an easement held by the Maine Coast Heritage Trust to preserve its natural habitat. The Easement however does allow for the construction of a single family residence, seasonal guest cottage, a barn and dock with the necessary infrastructure. The buildings must be set back from the shore at least 200 feet.
Location: Fog Island is located about seven miles from Stonington and the mainland, and about one and one half miles off the island of Isle au Haut. Approximately sixty percent of Isle au Haut is part of the Acadia National Park system, and is reached by mail boat or passenger ferry from Stonington.
