Middle Sister Island is composed of a low dome of dolomite bedrock rising a few meters above the surface of Lake Erie. The bedrock is capped with glacial till. The shore is a mix of cliffs, shelving bedrock and, particularly on the west side, gravel beaches. A cuffed promontory extends to the southeast. Glacial striations scar the bedrock in places.
Significant Landforms: Middle Sister Island is one of the six Canadian islands in the western basin of Lake Erie. All these islands are composed of dolomite domes which resisted the erosional forces of the Pleistocene glaciers better than the surround bedrock . Middle Sister Island shows striations from glacial erosion. Glacial till caps the bedrock over most of the island. Zoned as Planned Development.
