Pulau Pangkil Kecil is our exclusive tropical island resort located close to the equator. Pangkil is a private island and is only rented out as a whole. It is not possible to rent the individual houses (which we call 'Driftwood Palaces'). Pangkil is the perfect ‘bucket and spade’ weekend for families with children. It is also well-suited to corporate team-building events and retreats. The island is ideal for couples looking for a romantic hideaway as well as being the place to celebrate a birthday, wedding or anything else!
Pangkil offers nine elegant, detached driftwood palaces, all of which have unobstructed sea views. None of the palaces are more than five paces from the beach. We have a perfect blend of luxury and simplicity — even the tree house has a four-poster bed, fans and electric lights. Pangkil can accommodate between ten and thirty people in comfort, catered for by over twenty staff.
Pulau Pangkil Kecil is a delightful little island located close to Singapore in Indonesia. ‘Pulau’ means ‘island’ and ‘Kecil’ means ‘small’ in Indonesian. Pangkil the island and Pangkil the resort are one and the same. When you hire Pangkil, you get it all: driftwood palaces (our luxury accommodation), the bar, the sound systems, the pool, kayaks, snorkelling equipment, speedboats, kitchen and more than twenty staff ! Truly “Survivor" with maids and butlers.
The weather is the same as Singapore's but remember you will be outside. The sea breezes are usually more than enough to take the edge off the tropical heat. In fact we suggest bringing a light jacket during the winter months, December and January. We are close to the equator so the monsoons are mild and we entertain guests 365 days of the year.
The majority of our guests are expatriates based in Singapore, however we often have guests who travel long distances to be with family and friends on special occasions. Our Singapore ‘jump-off point’ is Tanah Merah Fast Ferry Terminal, which is about 10 minutes from Changi Airport.
We value our guests’ privacy – and our own – so you cannot drop in uninvited. However, if you are interested in booking the island, we can easily arrange a visit.
We are often asked about safety and security issues. Indonesia is a vast, diverse archipelago with some of the friendliest inhabitants in Asia. It is unfortunate that international media attention sometimes focuses on negative issues. We are thousands of miles from the political hotspots. Riau is one of the richest and most advanced provinces in the country.
The safety of our guests (and staff) is of paramount importance to us. Rest assured that we have good contacts in the local community at all levels. Our staff and their families are all closely vetted and we have contingency plans for all eventualities.
Mobile phone coverage extends to Pangkil and we have a large clinic and hospital complex in Kijang, opposite Pangkil on Bintan Island. Don't worry, we will keep you safe or tell you not to come.
Getting There
The journey to Pangkil is fun and relaxing. The record for the journey from Singapore to the island stands at 2 hours and 40 minutes. The trip time varies with the time of day, size of the group and choice of ferry company. However, the trip usually takes a little more than 3 hours.
