A rare opportunity to own an island in a private bay on a large lake in the Rideau Lakes area.
The Lake
A unique and beautiful part of Eastern Ontario, the Rideau Lakes district is famous for its wonderful scenery, pristine waters and abundant wildlife. Bobs Lake is one of the largest and finest lakes in the area. It is 22 kilometers long, with over 200 km of beautiful much of it untouched shoreline, together with numerous bays and islands. Many families have loved and occupied this area for generations.
A lake association represents the interests of landowners, stakeholders and the lake environment on issues such as water quality, fisheries, boating safety, cottage safety, shorelines and the natural environment.
Wildlife includes the usual Ontario suspects: loons, geese, song birds, porcupine, red fox, otters, deer and chipmunks, but also more exotic species such as bald eagles and osprey.
The Property
This is a classic Ontario cottage country island.
Approximately 100 meters from the mainland lies this 3.3 acre, mostly-wooded undeveloped property named for its turtle-like shape.
Turtle Island abounds with several perfect sites upon which to build your dream cottage. There is much variety in topography and plantlife with an open, grassy knoll (perfect for evening campfires), a cedar forest, maple groves, and rocky points. It could easily be subdivided.
The island is located in the north end of Bobs Lake. Approximately 50 per cent of the mainland surrounding the island is Crown land and undeveloped. The other half is cottages.
Getting there
The island is just an hour and 15 minute drive west of Ottawa, and three hours east of Toronto, with the historic towns of Perth and Westport 10-15 minutes away.
Activities on and around the island
Swimming: Pristine, deep and clear swimming spots abound. There is excellent swimming off a broad, sloping rock on the south side of the island. A small rock island a five-minute paddle away has a rope swing off a small cliff into deep water on one side and smooth sloping rock on the other, and is a favourite picnic and swimming spot for families.
Fishing: Bobs Lake is renowned for its fishing walleye, northern pike, bass, perch, blue gills, rock bass and sunnies are in abundance.
Boating: the lake is huge and full of winding, undeveloped shoreline for exploring, be it by canoe, kayak, sailboat or motor boat.
Other: Winter sports such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on the lake and mainland, and ice fishing. There is loads of room on the island to set up tons of hammocks, all manner of games horseshoe toss, croquet
