Vansittart Island, totalling 1500 acres, is one of the 52 islands in the Furneaux Group. It is situated in eastern Bass Strait only 7 kilometres by boat from Flinders Island - the largest island in the Group.

Vansittart Island has an interesting historical background. The island was first settled by the sealers in the 1800s. The windjammer “Farsund”, wrecked in 1912, lies 200metres off the south east coast.

The island has been traditionally used for farming and sheep and cattle.

It boasts an abundance of wild life: quail, ducks and Cape Barren geese. Many varieties of fish abound in the water. The island boasts lovely long white beaches and crystal blue waters. There is plenty of spring dam water, good rainfall, and the island is currently being farmed with cattle. There is potential to diversify. Tourism in the area is a growing industry. Vansittart Island has a 6 room baltic pine lined shack. The island includes 500 acres of freehold title, a transferable 500 acre leasehold, and a 500 acre crown reserve. If you are looking for a peaceful place to retire, holiday or do business, this island may be for you.

If required, the island may also include a 24 metre ocean going landing craft and a 750 acre farm on Flinders Island.
