Aesthetically, Utopia Island is very attractive, and unlike most of the other islands in the area, is not overshadowed by the hill behind it. The corals surrounding the island are huge, colourful and in wonderful condition. Luckily, the remoteness of this island has protected it from the ravages of local traffic.
Utopia Island is really a nature lover's paradise. With a bit of hard work, this island could be turned into a virtual “Garden of Eden’. It has a magnificent fringing reef, ideal for snorkelling. The island offers protection from strong waves, and a spectacular circular beach with soft sand, lined with palm trees and mature hardwoods.
The flat portion of the island's land is almost circular in shape - the whole circumference is a beautiful white sand beach. There are several areas along the beach lined with palm trees and other areas shaded by mature trees. The vegetation is rich and luxuriant and covers not only the flat area of the island, but also the hills.
The island is easily accessible from a major airport and then via a one and a half hour boat trip. The island has no local population trespassing or causing disturbances. However, the island is only 15-20 minutes from the barangay on the neighbouring island where local labour is easily found.
There is a very large flat area of about 10 to 15 hectares on the island covered with mature vegetation and good soil - ideal for subsistence agriculture.
The island has access to a huge limestone island with a 60 metre high cave and underwater coral drop-offs. A shipwreck also lies near Utopia Island. The proximity of the adjacent group of small islands means that sea kayaking is ideal, even for beginners. In fact, the area is currently used by several of the sea kayak outfits operating already in the main town. The island has an absolutely spectacular beach, pristine rainforest and magnificent coral surrounding it.
The current roads to the neighbouring town are being upgraded as part of the provincial government's road building program. The wharves of both towns are also being upgraded.
