Canoe Island, Quebec

Ile au canot (meaning Canoe island) is located in front of Ile aux Grues near Montmagny near Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The island has 3 buildings: a main house, employee housing and a henhouse for the pheasants. The island is approximately 1.25 miles long (2km) by 0.4 miles wide (600 meters) You can easily access the island by boat, no matter what the tide.

Hunting

Hunting is the most practiced sport on the island. The game consists of pheasant, wild turkey and wild birds such as the wild goose and the duck. The island is especially well located to welcome thousands of wild geese on its shores each year.

Leisure

The island has plenty of paths for you to walk or bike. While walking you can enjoy a multitude of sights, from wildlife to breathtaking views. The main house can easily accomodate 10 people with 4 bedrooms and one master bedroom with its own bathroom. Employee housing consists of a house that can accomodate 6 people. Of course it could be used to accomodate extra guests.

Main house

As you set foot on the island you will be greeted by an imposing and impressive main house. You can relax in front of the fireplace. A beautiful roud table lets you socialize with everyone at the table. On the same floor you have access to lockers and a changing room as well as the master bedroom. On the second floor you have 4 bedrooms with 2 beds in each as well as a large bathroom with 2 showers.

Employee housing

The employee housing can accomodate 6 people. On the right you have the power generator and the garage.

You will also come across the dog pound where some owners keep their hunting dogs as well as the henhouse where the remaining pheasants are kept until their release into the wild.

Canoe Island is a hunting paradise - few will ever have this opportunity in their lifetime.

Local game:

The island is currently set up to accomodate pheasants. These birds are sent into the wild progressively during the fall and hunted using dogs. The dogs flush the birds, making them available to the hunters. Pheasants are imported to the island in each spring.

The wild turkeys are left on their own on the island. These smart birds can offer quite the challenge, even to the most experienced of hunters. They also offer a really funny show.

Wild bird hunting:

The island's location gets lot of wild geese and duck every year. Scattered across the island are comfortable hideouts for hunters. You will be astounded by the spectacle offered by thousands of wild geese flying near your hideout! The island also has a few small lakes, perfect for sheltering a wide variety of ducks.

The island Currently, the island is divided into three parts: the west side, the east side and the north point.

The West side:

The west side is the longest and also the least wide part of the island. This part of the island has a lot of paths for walking. It also has the henhouse and the dog pound. Most of its surface has trees and a few fields. You also have a few small ponds near the south shore.

The East side:

The east side is more open with less trees. Most of the trees are located near the shores and the middle is mainly fields and small ponds. This is the widest part of the island. This is also the best place for hunting wild birds on the shores.

North point:

The north point is located right behind the main hosue. It is mostly covered by very tall trees and is a bit harder to hunt in. The views from the shore, however are astounding.
