Cedar Island, Ontario

Looking for a safe friendly environment with great Canadian fishing for your next family vacation? What about a great hunting trip for moose, bear, deer or duck.

Look no further... Our location on Sabaskong Bay on Lake of the Woods, Canada will provide it all.

Sabaskong Bay Lodge is situated in the heart of Sabaskong Bay on a private 10 acre island, Cedar Island on Lake of the Woods. Sabaskong Bay Lodge is one of the oldest and finest established lodges on Lake of the Woods. Ernest Calvert, the original owner, having his pick of prime spots on the lake, chose Cedar Island in 1922 for its location, access to great fishing in sheltered bays and breathtaking beauty. The same applies today.

Born and raised on Lake of the Woods, we began our search for a prime vacation destination. After a long search for resorts and islands on Lake of the Woods, we came upon Sabaskong Bay Lodge. In September of 2000 we purchased the lodge and we invite you to join us for a truly memorable Island vacation experience.

Cottage Accomodations

Sabaskong Bay Lodge offers 10 comfortable cabins and a main lodge providing many options for your Canadian Lake of the Woods vacation. We offer one, two and three bedroom cabins. All cabins are equipped with hot and cold running water, 3 piece bathrooms, comfortable beds and all linens and towels.

Most of our cabins have screened porches and are located near the water's edge for their own exceptional view of the lake.

Our housekeeping cabins are equipped with a gas range, electric fridge, cooking utensils, dishes, pots & pans and each comes with a gas barbecue.

Our lodge motto: “Where you come as a Guest and leave as a Friend.” The dining room is open for our housekeeping guests to join us as well.

Sabaskong Bay Lodge is a safe haven away from the hustle of your busy lifestyle. The Lodge boasts a beautiful cathedral ceiling, large dining space and a lounge area with satellite T.V. for those who would like to keep tabs on their favourite sports team, latest world news or watch a movie. In keeping with island’s peacefulness and solitude, the only T.V. and telephone are located in the Lodge. You can bring your own cellular phone as service is provided.

In the early spring and fall, the weather is usually cool, but pleasant. In June, July, and August, the fair-weather fisherman will like the weater. July and August offers balmy days, ideal for swimming, paddleboating, water skiing, tubing, nature watching, canoeing, hiking and berry picking.

Recreation - What else can I do? Explore the Island and our beaches - swim, tube, water-ski, snorkel and build sandcastles. Canoes and paddleboats are provided for our guests. Paddle across to the sheltered bays offering great opportunities to experience nature at its best. Explore the islands nearby. They offer solitude, natural game trails, portages for hiking, bald eagle sightings, the splendour of sunlit coves and beautiful sunsets.

Wildlife and Bird Watching View up to 50 species of birds and wildlife. The topography of the Lake of the Woods provides a habitat for innumerable plant and animal species. Our guests marvel at the scenery of the vast pine, oak, poplar, cedar and birch trees, the craggy rock cliffs, and the natural sand beaches that line the island shores. Watch for the beaver ponds, fox, deer, moose, bear, wolves and enjoy the natural scenic beauty of the many unique environments on the Lake of the Woods. Bringing your camera and binoculars is a must.

Activities After supper you may wish to play a game of horseshoes or volleyball. We have a wide variety of board games available. If you want to sit around and meet some of the other guests, come join everyone at the bonfire ring.

Native Pictographs While boating, watch for ancient native rock paintings. Some date back to over 6,000 years ago. Some paintings are located on Painted Rock Island.
