Hey,

I'm Johnny Islander.

Maybe we can get some fresh discussion going about islands on here?

My family owned property on an island near Bancroft, Ontario, Canada when I was a kid. I have forgotten many things in the 25 years since I have been to Weslemkoon, but I will never forget the feeling of wonder I felt there...

Whether you enjoy your island in your memories, dreams or over long weekends, I would love to hear about it.
It's been a long while since I've posted so I thought that I'd bring everyone up to speed on this summer's projects. The first that I'm working on is a whole cabin water filtration system. We found that the water pump was putting out too much sediment and when we tried to filter on the suction side, the pump burned up! What I'm just finishing up is a 5 stage filtration system as follows:
1 - Rusco sediment trapper spin down filter for large debris
2 - Rusco 200 micron sediment filter
3 - 10 micron "Big Blue" sediment filter
4 - Big Blue Carbon filter
5 - Doulton Rio 2000, 5 Candle ceramic filter in big blue housing for a final pass to make it drinking quality water

All filters are high volume (8GPM). I also have the lines T'd off before the sediment filter for a fire hose so that I don't have to worry about filters plugging if I have to put a fire out and I have a T after the Rusco filters so that I can plumb an outdoor shower and landscape lines without running all of the water through the drinking quality filters. All of this is put together with ball valves and unions at each end so that it can be quickly taken out and drained for the winter. I plan on mounting in a small Rubbermaid shed to keep from freezing in the early spring and late fall.

My second project is a floating dock. I went pretty cheap on this just to test the water and see how it works. I found that the manufacturer of my trusty inflatable boat is now making 4'x8' dock sleeves of the same material. You slide 4 sheets of foam insulation in that you can pick up at Home Depot and velcro the end up. The sections already have "D" rings sewed in and the material is virtually indestructable. I also purchased some 40" long, helix type ground anchors to screw into the lake bed to anchor the sections. Each 4'x8' section is just $139 plus the foam sheets.

Once I get everything put together I'll post some photos.

There is so much economic disorder in the world today, as well as civil unrest, that it only makes sense that we be prepared before the cut off time that will keep this plan from happening. There will be total government control of our lives and we can see that happening on a daily basis. Laws are passed that keep our rights at bay as they "eat" at our civil liberties and erode our freedoms as we have known them.
I have been putting together all the various aspects of island living on a grand scale as described in my forum, so I am feeling the necessity of keeping a sense of urgency about the fact of proceeding toward initiating the beginnings and set up of gathering committed people and necessities to a new beginning of island living.
I will need to begin a list of people/families who are conservative in thought and action, yet willing to take a stand to be a part of starting our own country. You can only FIX something or PATCH it just so much before you just need to wipe the slate clean and start fresh as our Fore Fathers did and still intend for us to be free and unencumbered of overbearing government.

My plan is to conduct interviews to make sure people QUALIFY to live on the island in harmony with others. This will cost each family $350,000 for the package deal. A bank account will be set up and the banker will keep track of each family's deposits until the $350K is reached. No money will be extracted until all 100 slots are filled and paid for. IF, at any time, a family wishes to pull out from the deal, all money will be refunded, less any banking fees incurred.

Just list yourself and a good email address that I can forward a questionnaire to you, if you are seriously interested.

I have always liked the T-shirt saying, "We are God fearing, gun toting conservatives, wanting to make a difference"
I'm looking for somewhere that's both adult and kid friendy - preferably not too remote where we can rent some vacation property for an extended period of time (about two months during off-summer months). I would like to take some of my staff and their family also, so it would need to house a couple of families at least. Any suggestions?
Hello everyone. I am a new user here, but am in the process of selling my small island. It is located in the Occoquan bay, off the Potomac river, about 30 minutes south of DC.

Also, this is the one and only island I have attempted to sell, so any advice on how to properly get the word out, or techniques to reach the most potential buyers would also be appreciated!

Here is the MLS listing I have up:

http://mrislistings.mris.com/Matrix/Public/Portal.aspx?ID=44716657025

It is about a 1/4 acre, undeveloped. It has a historic significance, as it was inhabited by the Dogue Indians. It was also frequented by former US President J Edgar Hoover for his duck hunting trips.

The current listing price is $477k.

Please send me a message if interested, and post any questions you may have!
Thanks all!

We are a Renewable Energy start up based in the UK, we are searching for a tropical island where we can install a demo OTEC system, a full description of OTEC can be found in Wiki.

We have designed a new method of delivering water for use in OTEC and are hoping to bypass the legislation associated with countries, prove our concept quickly, and demonstrate and promote the product.

The island would need to be in tropical water and have access to deep water.

Depending on the terms agreed your island could gain an electricity generation system built on you island for free, the system is a means of generating electricity potable water and it can also be used in air conditioning.

IF you own a commercial island this would be a great way for you to familiarize yourself with the technology.

I am also wondering if there is anyone out there who owns or know where to find a list of private island owners in tropical waters?
Our setup is basically carry on / carry off.

If it is basic paper waste we usually burn it in the wood stove. We also have a dry well that our grey water goes into.
We have to possibly take down some trees that got infected by turpentine beetles. They killed 4 or 5 trees over the course of 2 years not seeing it until it is too late.
Anyone have any experience with tree mortality? What happened and what did you do?
