Instead of being typical, wouldn't it be better to get married on a private island and have the ceremony on the beach?
I hope that Maine Islander will be well insulated as the renmants of Hurricanne Bill pass his island retreat. With the storm being a category 2 as of this writing, but having the potential of becoming a category 3 or 4, people will be advised to either hunker down and ride out the storm. Or that they leave before the storm arrives.

Who will arrive first......The Mighty Thor or Beta Ray Bill ?

I think when you have people looking at taxing you on your view, which is very subjective, it's time to vote them out and get some people in place that can focus on something more productive.

The problem with goverments is that everyone wants to make a difference. In the US we've had laws piling up for 200+ years to the point where there is nothing left to legislate but individual and states rights. I'd like to see a group in power for the next 50 years that did nothing but repeal stupid laws and programs so that we get back to the basics again. The way it's going, we will all be walking around in a big plastic bubbles someday so we don't hurt ourselves or anyone else.

In Texas, the state govenment only meets every other year for no more than 140 days. That way they just have time to get the important stuff done and forget the rest. I think that the original thought was to get business done in the winter then get back to your farm in time for spring planting. Wouldn't that be a refreshing change from the career politicians that we seem to vote in year after year?

I can't say but I had another idea. I saw a picture of an inventor who made a bicycle that goes on water. They used foiur empty 5 gallon water jugs as pontoons, put a fender over the back tire, and put a paddle wheel type idea on the bike tire.

That makes me want to build a "recycled boat" using 5 gallon jugs as pontoons, maybe line them with rubber, maybe fill them with foam to make them more rigid. Build a frame.... then either put a motor on it or have a recliner chair with bicycle pedals that turn a driveshaft attached to a big propeller or a twin shaft attached to two propellers. Be fun to have the outboard as a backup if you got tired.

How would you build something like that?

I'm sure the transportation process would be less efficient than finding the CO2 on Mars and releasing it into the atmosphere There's probably plenty of CO2 captured in ice and dirt layers - we just have to bring an interplanetary bosch mixer up to mars to stir the ground and mix things up.

Tourism is thus a very useful means of earning the much needed foreign currency and for certain developing countries like India and states like Kerala, it is one of the main sources of income. It is a very important factor for correcting an adverse balance of payments situation during certain parts of the year, when the country had to face adverse economic situations. The tourism department has now given permission to even the large households to admit the international tourist in search of the social life of the common man. When considering the life in a homestay kerala state offers a diversity of sorts.

A tourist can choose from the most traditional thatched house to the more advanced architecturally modified modern concrete home. While on the one hand the concept of homestay was introduced due to the non-availability of quality hotel rooms in the prominent tourist centers, on the other hand many people were actually awaiting the government nod for signing up for starting the homestays.

Remarkably, tourism is the only export trade that earns large foreign exchange without depleting the national resources, and without actually exporting any material goods. This is the only industry which brings in returns without any sacrifice on the part of the exporting country. In a state like Kerala abounding in natural resources, it is the easiest way to earn foreign exchange.

The tourist from abroad also represents an overseas market right at our doorstep. Undoubtedly, loans and aids create a heavy burden for future generations; as both usually involve repayment of principal and payment of accrued interest, leave aside the effect of national dignity and self-reliance. As against this, the exchange earnings from tourism are free of either of these shortcomings.

During the last tourism season there was a significant fall in foreign exchange due to a fall in the tourist arrivals due to the global recession. Only very few homestays could attract some visitors. Many of the homestays also exited totally out of this business. But this year, things are actually looking up. There is much hope in the tourism industry of getting over the negative growth patterns of the previous year.
I like to think of myself as being in the second category, at least in the long term, but realistically at the moment I'm a dreamer, so I suppose I'm qualified to answer your question there.

Various plans have crossed my mind as to how I'll afford an island, such as winning the Euromillions, or squatting the place. But I did have some more down-to-earth ideas too. So far I've considered dividing the island into smaller parcels or making it a time-share, or possibly a combination of both. This would make it cheaper per person and also avoid having to pay a caretaker when you're back in the real world.

Anyway the main reasons I haven't gone through with it (yet!) are twofold, lack of interested parties (easy problem to solve, just advertise here) and lack of funds for my share!

The squatting idea doesn't sound too bad for now. The powerball here is 186,000,000. PM me some numbers so we can win and buy Katafanga. I just got an idea we should start a lotto pool!! If it wasn't for wanting an island I wouldnt even play lotto.

With so many countries around the world running the printing presses just as fast as the US, most commodities should see a good pop in years to come... as soon as demand starts to grow again. I personally have bought coal stocks in anticipation of a rally in energy... I think prices can move higher until the government stops stimulating the economy (when worries of a huge deficit will creep in). That may be a while down the road still.

As prices climb, I'll take a little extra enjoyment driving my electric golf cart around each day on my car-free island(North Captiva).

TSA’s Secure Flight Enters First Public Phase
Press Release

Media Contact:
TSA Public Affairs
(571) 227-2829

WASHINGTON – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced today that beginning May 15 the Secure Flight passenger vetting program will begin asking passengers to enter their full name – as it appears on the government issued identification they will be traveling with – when making airline reservations.

This is the first publicly-noticeable step in implementing the multi-phase Secure Flight program which shifts pre-departure watch list matching responsibilities from individual aircraft operators to TSA. The Secure Flight program satisfies a key recommendation of the 9/11 Commission, and congressional requirements from the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 and the 9/11 Commission Act signed into law in 2007.

"By enhancing and streamlining the watch list matching process, the Secure Flight program makes travel safer and easier for millions of Americans," said TSA Acting Administrator Gale Rossides. "During this phase of the Secure Flight program, passengers are encouraged to book their reservations using their name as it appears on the government-issued ID they will use while traveling."

In the near future, small differences between the passenger's ID and the passenger's reservation information, such as the use of a middle initial instead of a full middle name or no middle name/initial at all, will not be an issue for passengers. Over time, passengers should strive to obtain consistency between the name on their government issued ID and the travel information they use for booking flights.

The second phase of Secure Flight begins August 15, 2009 when passengers will be required to enter their date of birth and gender when booking airline flights.

Once Secure Flight's advanced technology is fully implemented in early 2010, enhanced watch list matching will be done by the government. Airlines will gather a passenger's full name, date of birth, and gender when making an airline reservation to determine if the passenger is a match to the No Fly or Selectee lists. By providing the additional data elements of gender and date of birth, Secure Flight will more effectively help prevent misidentification of passengers who have similar names to individuals on the watch list and better identify individuals that may pose a known or suspected threat to aviation.

TSA's goal is to vet 100 percent of passengers on all domestic commercial flights by early 2010 and 100 percent of passengers on all international commercial flights by the end of 2010.
