Get yourself a passport anyway, it's handy to have and doesn't cost much (unless you're a conspiracy theorist, in which case you might believe it osts you your freedom).

Vaccinations depend on the area of the world you're going to, usually it's just if you're leaving your own continent or going anywhere tropical, best to speak with your doctor about that.

Stay out of the tropics anyway if you don't want a hurricane; tornadoes and cyclones are harder to predict. For a temperate region that's warm in October, I'd suggest the southern hemisphere, that's their Spring time I believe. But that's just speculation, it may well be that the northern hemisphere wont have cooled down yet from summer.

I don't have much experience of hot weather anyway. Living in Ireland, my two favourite days of the year are Christmas and Summer!

                                      Congrats, David!

Melody Key gets my vote: http://www.privateislandsonline.com/moneykeyrent.htm

Oh wait ... I just looked at the Men's Journal article and Melody Key is their first recommendation!

If you'd prefer something less pricey, Dolphin Jump Key and its mainland house look promising. No staff. http://www.privateislandsonline.com/dolphinjumpkeyforsale.htm

Check with Chris or Alexis about booking, availability and other island options. They're at 647-477-5581.

When I discovered one could affordably rent a private island (from this nifty article in Men's Journal), I thought it would make the perfect honeymoon!

I haven't told my fiancée the idea yet, but the research is a bit overwhelming. Ideally, I'd be able to find an island with the following characteristics:

- Available (& warm weather) in mid-October
- Unlikely to be hit by a hurricane (or equivalent) at that time
- We'd be the only people there, excluding very few staff.
- We could have access to a cook/chef so we weren't cooking our own meals for a week.

Any ideas?

=========

Additionally, I'm new to this whole thing - I've never travelled outside the U.S., haven't gotten a passport yet, etc. What ways should I prepare for my first time on such an excursion? Should I be concerned about vaccinations of any kind, depending on the area of the world we're headed? All help is appreciated!

Thanks,
