Just wondering what kind of ratio the site offers, as far as owners to enthusiasts to dreamers to planners... ?

Interesting poll I am surprised that no one has done this before.

Please take the time to cast your vote! If you want leave a comment.

I guess I fall into the third category. I would like to own an island but I am not really making any plans. This website isn't just for island owners or those planning to buy an island (although its a great resource for those people). I guess I am more interested in private island resorts and renting private islands. For me thats more exciting than owning just one island, I am not one to stay in one place for a long period of time.

I am surprised with how many other island owners are on the forum. I was under the impression that there were more dreamers.

Well, I'd say I'm still in the "dreamer" camp, but I am taking steps towards my goal. I'm about half-way to affording a small lake island in the US- probably quite similar to the one Amherst owns! Just a peaceful little retreat from the world, hopefully out of range of Blackberry reception...

Is it possible for people to survive outside of blackberry reception?

LOL Kyle, they don't call it "Crackberry" for nothing... I'm avoiding getting one for as long as possible.

I don't think its a matter of finding a place that is out of range of cell phone reception. I think the key is to just leave it behind. Its amazing the phrase out of sight out of mind really works. Once you have trained yourself not to rely on it you can start bringing it with you (keeping it off of course). That way you can use it if need be but its not dominating your life.

How come the dreamers haven't come together and formed a plan to make the dream a reality?

I like to think of myself as being in the second category, at least in the long term, but realistically at the moment I'm a dreamer, so I suppose I'm qualified to answer your question there.

Various plans have crossed my mind as to how I'll afford an island, such as winning the Euromillions, or squatting the place. But I did have some more down-to-earth ideas too. So far I've considered dividing the island into smaller parcels or making it a time-share, or possibly a combination of both. This would make it cheaper per person and also avoid having to pay a caretaker when you're back in the real world.

Anyway the main reasons I haven't gone through with it (yet!) are twofold, lack of interested parties (easy problem to solve, just advertise here) and lack of funds for my share! Razz

The squatting idea doesn't sound too bad for now. The powerball here is 186,000,000. PM me some numbers so we can win and buy Katafanga. I just got an idea we should start a lotto pool!! If it wasn't for wanting an island I wouldnt even play lotto.
