Hi there, I just read a great book by a Canadian author, "An Embarrassment of Mangoes". The author, Ann Vanderhoof, and her husband, left their jobs for two years to sail their 42 foot monohull, "Receta", all the way from Toronto down to Trinidad and back, hitting most of the Caribbean islands. It is part true-life adventure story and part cookbook, as the author likes to replicate the local cuisine from the various islands they visit. But this is not a boring travelogue.........this highly entertaining book is filled with humor, insightful observations, and colorful descriptions of the people and places she encounter. For all you adventurers out there, this one is highly recommended! And no, I do not know the author!

Thank-you for the book recommendation perhaps I will pick up a copy and review it on my website. I have never been much of a sailer, I just find them too much work. Nonetheless, I can imagine it was an amazing experience to sail such a long distance. I am assuming the book is available on Amazon?

I don't know if Amazon carries it or not. I bought it (on sale, 1/2 price, for $7.50) from the website www.femailcreations.com . You mention that you are not much of a sailor. The author was not, either, but her husband was, so she gave in and went along with his dream of sailing the Caribbean. Maybe because she was not a sailor is why her observations are descriptions are so vivid. I sat in my hanging chair that hangs out over the river, reading this book, hoping that nightfall would not come, as I did not want to put the book down. That's how much I liked it! Hope you do as well!
