Actually, there's not much of "in between" tropical and temperate, because temperate is "in between" tropical and arctic, right? Unless you say something like Myrtle Beach, whiich is not tropical but it has palm trees, and I like palm trees, but I hate the atlantic coast beaches. Too strong. Pacific and Mediterranean are good.

Tropical, nothing beats it. I must be one of the only people to actually move TO Niue and not away. It's perfection here, only about 2000 people and lots of space and time to work (I'm a sculptor). Quick flight back to Auckland every once and a while for showings or meet with galleries and that's all the civilization I need. Here is Niue, beautiful isn't it!

To me, who lives in sunny Mexico, tropical islands are beautiful but not, you know, exotic! I think honestly I would love to have a beautiful British Columbia island in Canada, with pine trees and mountains and even snow in winter.

I kind of think of the opposite... I guess tropicalness is sometimes overused as exotic... they have the most plant and animal life in the world... And I would kind of rather have tarantulas and anacondas and palm trees than black widows, copperheads and pine trees that we get in Eastern USA.

I think it varies depending on personal perspective. One person may find temperate islands to be his or her idea of hell, but some people love the change of seasons and the variety that produces. Obviously, Mediterranean climate produces the best balance of heat without the high rainfall and humidity of the tropics.
