I would think something extremely seaworthy would be a good choice. You never know when you'll have to get off your island for an emergency, so something that could handle rough seas would be good.

Depends on where the island is located.
Mine is an interior island, detached from peninsular Florida but not out on the "open waters" of the gulf.

For me, a Jon Boat or an Airboat are the only ways to get out there (or a similarly shallow draft vessel) so my ideal boat is a shallow drafting skiff that is durable and can haul lots of cargo.

If I owned a private island in Belize that could accommodates a yacht, I guess my ideal boat would be a big yacht.

I've got a 12ft inflatable. I show up in the spring, air it up, attach the motor and go till fall. At the end of the season, pull a few plugs, roll it up and put it in the shed for the winter. I throw a half sheet of plywood across the bow and front seat and have carried as much as 900lbs of concrete in a single trip. Neighbors have also seen 20ft ladders, 100lb propane tanks, large wood chippers, 6x6 pressure treated lumber,....

It's a work horse! I think that once I get the cabin finished and put in a proper dock, I'll get one of those part barges to putt around the lake.

Here's a link to an interesting product. It's a boat and a trailer all in one.

Wow.
I want one of those- like, bad... Talk about a PERFECT craft for people with interior islands. Quite possibly the best boat I've ever seen for non-remote island living.

Anyone know how much they cost?

a boat I would like to have is one of those ones with a room at the bottom so you can sleep or whatever, maybe in case there are rough seas or your island is a little far away from shore.

Ha ha, I've had to spend a night sleeping in a small boat Stevv and it's not as fun as you think, especially in rough waters!

Ugh... I love the water but I get epic seasickness. Fortunately I have never had to spend the night in a boat, but I expect I would be skipping breakfast the next morning!

Yes but I never said I wanted a small boat, did I? If I could really choose and if I had the money, I would buy one of those giant yachts, like those ones with basketball courts in it, although I would prefer something other than that, since I am not largely a fan of basketball.

Well Stevv, I guess if you had a mega-yacht it would be so large that seasickness would be much less likely! Personally I never get seasick, but a friend of mine gets it severely (no long car rides, rollercoasters or anything either) and it looks like hell. I had no idea before we took a ferry together that people could actually turn green
