Thank-you all for your warm comments.
The weekend with my family was great, except for a couple of minor sunburns everyone had a great time.
The weather was pretty good and the food was even better.
I am fortunate to have a family who always help clean up before leaving. Therefore the clean up hasn't been too bad.
Thanks again.

Hello Mark,
May I ask how long you have owned your island for? Where is it?
What are some of the major challenges you face when living on an island?
I am planning on buying an island so any advice you could provide would be helpful.

| Now would be a good time to wish happy July holidays to anybody over the last few weeks, whether it be Canada Day Independance Day Bastille Day or others. |

Amherst Island,
I also had a great Canada Day and 4th of July at my place. We were working the whole time but had great weather and a never ending line of neighbors coming over to check out the progress and offer encouragement. On Canada Day, there were people all around us on shore setting off fireworks. We had the best view you could imagine being in the middle of the lake.
The most memorable experience was my neighbor on an adjacent island near the end of the trip. We were just taking hot dogs off the grill after a long day when I saw him get into his party barge, back out and zip right over to my island. He then turned on a police siren and yelled "beer run". I ran down and he had a half dozen ice cold beverages in a bag ready for us.
I know that everyone talks about liking the isolation of owning an island, but the best part about where I am is the great neighbors. We have a cluster of 6 islands that are very close and everyone watches out for each other. One of the neighbors on shore is a retired Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman and he organizes a pot luck get together with the neighbors every time I'm up. He's also got a standing invitation to use their hot shower every time we get to grubby. _________________ McDonald Island Ontario |

Hey Mark,
Glad to hear you had a great fourth of July! Are you having any more celebrations on your island before winter? How many people do you usually invite? Is there a maximum?
I guess you don't have to worry about party crashers at least! _________________ Kyle
