Haden Island, Ontario

When searching for an island you have a wish list of the things you would like to have and know that there will have to be some compromises. Not with this island.

The original owner of Haden Island bought the island in the 1950’s. After camping on the island, he came to understand what a treasure it was (and still is). He built the cottage in 1956 with much thought and planning. The original cottage was all on one level and it was very modern compared to the cottages of that era. After a few years, he added a second story on to the cottage, essentially doubling the square footage. Since he sold the island in 1968, Haden Island has been in the same family for over 42 years. There have been additional changes and renovations since then. Haden Island has been a wonderful place for family and friends to gather and enjoy paradise.

It is about a 10 minute boat ride from Haden Island to Dillon Cove Marina. It is approximately 29 kilometers from Dillon Cove Marina to Parry Sound, the nearest large city.

PRIVATE
A clothes-less swim, no problem. Very private.

VIEW
Anyone who has been on Haden Island can tell you the view is second to none. You can see the sun rise and set. The cottage has connecting decks on three sides for great viewing. The sunsets are spectacular to say the least. You can see for miles and miles. The panoramic view from the cottage is breathtaking.

DOCKING
The island has a natural cove on the east side completely protected from the wind, waves, and boat traffic. It is deep (about 4 meters. at the end of our docks) with deep and easy access to a main channel. One summer three 30 ft. sail boats sailed from Detroit to Haden Island and docked their boats at our dock.

They are ceiling to floor and the cottage is about 70% windows. They open by tilting a small window at the bottom circulating the air at the floor and not blowing things all over. This cottage has been well thought out and is very warm and cozy.

LANDING, SKI AREA On the west side of the island is a large area that is well protected from the open waters. It is the perfect place to land a sea plane, water ski and go tubing.

OUTBUILDING
We call it the boat house even though you can’t put a boat in it. It holds tools and hardware, water pump and filter for house, boating equipment, fishing gear, work bench, storage, etc.

BRIDGE
The island has a 180 ft walk-bridge from the cottage to the north side of the island. It carries the sewer line from the cottage to the septic field on the underside of the walk boards. There are some great views from the bridge.

NATURE As a guest once said, “you are inserted in the midst of nature and she lets you experience things you could never have imagined.” After 42 years, the stories are endless. Some examples of what we’ve seen: 2 deer swimming from island to island; a mink dragging a snake across the rocks while the snake did everything possible to escape; a baby bear leaving our island and swimming to another island; scores of ducklings swimming in their families, loons diving and calling for each other; mink running and playing, beaver, raccoon, the list goes on and on.

MARINA
Approximately 7 km away is Dillon Cove Marina. They have groceries, marine supplies, fishing gear, gasoline, ice, mechanics and it owned by one of nicest families in Ontario.

FISHING
Some of the best Northern Pike and Small mouth Bass in North America. The water is so clear you can sometimes see the bass take your lure. Not to forget record Muskie.

BOATING and SAILING
You can leave the dock at Haden and boat or sail to anywhere in the world. Georgian Bay is noted for some of the best fresh water sailing in the world.

SWIMMING

That it is for sure, kids, adults and dogs love it.
