Six miles (almost 10 km) northwest of the city of Port Hardy, on the northern tip of Vancouver Island, lies Heard Island. This large, hilly island rises out of the ocean in an area known for excellent salmon fishing, as well as its cod and snapper. Good deepwater moorage is provided by a good-sized protected bay. Currently undeveloped, Heard Island has several building sites close to the shore which offer great potential.
