Hummingbird Island Alaska, Alaska

Quest Alaska Lodge is a world class Alaskan fishing resort located on Hummingbird Island. The small island resort consists of beautiful cabins, docks and a main dining meeting facility.

Location

Hummingbird island is located just minutes away from the historic city of Sitka, which was the capital of Russian Alaska.

The climate on Hummingbird Island is mild, with summer daytime high temperatures averaging 61° F in July. Bring clothing that will allow you to dress in layers, so you can add or subtract layers as the weather and your activities change. Quest Alaska Lodges provides all-weather gear and rubber boots for guest use.

The mainland city of Sitka is filled with a variety of quaint little shops and art galleries. Many major attractions are within easy walking distance. These include the Alaska Raptor Center, St. Michael's Cathedral, Southeast Alaska Indian Cultural Center, the Russian Bishop's House, Starrigavan State Park and much more.

Cuisine

Cuisine on the island offers the best of Pacific Rim and Alaskan dishes. Hearty breakfasts, delicious lunches, and unforgettable dinners are the mainstay.

Accommodations

Hummingbird Island offers guest lodging in six private cabins. Three cabins are two bedroom/two bathroom cabins with the common living room/dining room area. These cabins have two sets of twin bunk beds in each room.

Three new cabins built in 2005 include two King cabins which have one king bed and a bathroom; and a 3rd cabin which has two separate queen rooms with one queen bed and bathroom in each.

Fishing

With some of the best fishing in the world, Hummingbird Island is the place of choice for diehard fishers. According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the Sitka Sound area has the best King Salmon fishing catch rate in southeastern Alaska.

Quest Lodges experienced fishing guides will take you to the fish and get them on your line. Sitka Sound is an important feeding area for big King Salmon, which can grow to over 70 pounds. Sitka Sound Salmon are still in their prime, feisty and hard fighting. The best Alaska King Salmon fishing occurs in May, June and July.

In mid to late summer, Silver Salmon become even more prolific than their bigger cousins. The limit for Silvers is generous so they provide excellent Alaska sport fishing opportunities. Silver Salmon, also known as Coho, are commonly caught in July, August and September.

Bottom fish such as Halibut, Ling Cod and Red Snapper are also abundant in our area of Alaska fishing. Alaska Halibut weighing up to 300 pounds are caught occasionally, and large numbers of smaller fish are available. These Alaska fish bite well through the late spring, summer and early fall.

Quest Alaska Lodges provide all needed equipment, including top quality Alaskan fishing boats, rods, reels, and baits.
