Hunter's IslandHunter's Island, QuebecEver dreamed of owning your own island? Canada's premier wing-shooting paradise is now for sale. For years, this exclusive island has been one of the best kept secrets in the hunting world, hosting a virtual who's who of the business community, including many Fortune 500 CEOs, celebrities, even British Royalty. The island has been used for many years as a private hunting preserve. This is a place where snow geese and migratory ducks come by the hundreds of thousands; where the resident pheasant, wild turkey, whitetail deer, and rabbit roam freely with no predators. Day after glorious day of amazing shooting in stunningly beautiful surroundings will be yours for the taking, year after year. THE ISLAND Hunter’s Island is three square miles of paradise in the majestic Saint Lawrence River, measuring approx. 3.5 by .75 miles (approx 18 million sq. feet.) An island of sunsets behind the blue mountains of Cap Tourmente, sunrise over open water to the east. The cool of evening, the air salt-tanged. Day after glorious day of sun. And the light, particularly in autumn, is legendary. So near and yet so far, it is just minutes from historic Québec City and Ile d'Orléans. FAMOUS VISITORS Since 1638, the island has welcomed countless visitors. Over the past 43 years the present owner has entertained thousands of friends and clients. SUITABILITY Hunter’s Island is a completely self-contained hunter's paradise with a beautiful 6 bedroom lodge and everything you need to make your hunting truly memorable. Nurtured and protected for nearly 400 years, this extraordinary island is a haven for wild life, fully equipped to be a hunter's dream. Apart from the obvious opportunities as a thriving hunting facility, the island has also proved itself to be a valuable tool for corporate entertainment. The island could also be considered for a number of business ventures including an exclusive retreat and spa or a vineyard (the rich soil is perfect for a wide variety of grapes). The island has also been visited by producers as a hideaway recording studio for top level performers. It can be continued as a private hunting preserve, but could also be used for a private retreat, or for business conventions. THE SEIGNEURY In keeping with the spirit of the island, the traditional Québecois seigneury was constructed over 150 years ago for comfort and self-sufficiency. Two fireplaces, one of original fieldstone, are just part of its charm. With five bedrooms and additional accommodation, the lodge comfortably houses eight or more guests. There is a staff annex as well as separate quarters within the house. HISTORY The island is one of the oldest concessions recorded in Québecois history. In 1638, la Compagnie de la Nouvelle-France (The Company of New France) ceded the island to les Reverends Pères de la Compagnie de Jesus (The Reverend Fathers of the Company of Jesus). The first recorded sale of the island was in 1708, from the Reverend Fathers to its second owner. It has been in private hands ever since. THE TREASURE Like many islands, this island is home to a supposed buried treasure. As the story goes, the island was owned by a local doctor in the 19th century. During the Irish Potato famine, the many Irish immigrants coming to Canada were placed in quarantine on a nearby island. The doctor charged extortionate prices and amassed a huge sum. When he died, no trace of his money was found and the local legend is that it is hidden somewhere within the dwelling that is used to this day. WILDLIFE This is a special place where snow geese come by the hundreds of thousands and wild roses grow as they have for centuries. Abundantly. Here, pheasants feast on grain from the fields and whitetail deer have no predators. There are strawberries without equal, wild blueberries galore and game in every season.
