Isla Gatun, Panama

Own your own private island for an affordable price.

Located in Panama's Lake Gatun, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world.

A small island (3000 m2) surrounded by nature in such abundance that you could shoot your own National Geographic documentary here. This island has –of course- sweet water all around, and although it seems that you are in the deepest jungles of the Amazon, you are actually only minutes away from the nearest town with a little marina and restaurants. Monkeys, parrots, tucans and even tapirs are found in the area.

There is cellphone coverage, and electricity poles on the mainland are only a couple of 100 meters away. This is a perfect spot for a nice waterfront villa with a pier and a boat house.

The island used to have a little house built on it, the only thing that remains from that is the septic tank and the toilet bowl, a throne at the highest point of the island.

The area was very popular when the US was still overseeing the Panama Canal zone for its abundance of bass, it is not uncommon to catch 50 to 100 in a day.

Infrastructure in the area is very good; in less than 40 minutes you can travel from Panama City to your island hideaway by a smooth tarmac road.

The island is not titled (like 95% of Panamanian islands) but is has a solid and uncontested right of possession (a free indefinite government leasehold). In case a construction is planned, we would recommend obtaining a 60-90 years concession that can be insured with a title insurance company to protect your investment.
