About Hupper Island

A magical island sanctuary just a short hop across Port Clyde Harbor, this 146 acre property presents the opportunity to own the interior of Hupper Island. The land includes a spectacular beach and a right-of-way to a landing directly across from Port Clyde village.

The wooded interior of the island is a place of great natural beauty, developed only with old stone walls, walking trails, and the old "road" that allows residents access to their shorefront homes. These trails wander through small meadows, birch groves, and evergreen forests.

The shorefront (about 1300 feet) on Clam Cove on the island's southern end includes a broad sand beach, beautiful granite ledge, and tidal pools, with magnificent views of Marshall Point Lighthouse, the Georges Islands, Monhegan, and open ocean. There are several potential building sites, and the opportunity to conserve this unrestricted land is tremendous.

Historical and Regional

Hupper Island, which is over 300 acres in size, was first settled in the late 18th century and today has about two dozen summer cottages along its shores. It is highly accessible and a short skiff ride from the docks of Port Clyde, a picturesque fishing village and artists' colony at the end of the St. George peninsula. A beloved quiet escape for prominent seasonal residents such as the Wyeth family, Port Clyde is well known for its excellent anchorage, small-town charm, and scenic beauty that has inspired writers and artists for decades.

The St. George peninsula lies between the Mussel Ridge Channel and the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the St. George River to the west. The vibrant small city of Rockland is about 15 miles away, and the scenic coastal towns of Camden and Rockport are about 20 miles away.

The midcoast region offers many excellent restaurants, a world-class golf course, a renowned marina, a full-service hospital, and many cultural and educational institutions, including the Farnsworth Museum, the Owls Head Transportation Museum, the Penobscot Marine Museum, Bay Chamber Concerts, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Maine Media Workshops, the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, as well as a multitude of fine art galleries. Knox County Regional Airport (with commercial service to Boston) is approximately 15 miles from the property, and the Portland International Jetport is approximately 90 miles to the south.
