Long Island, Ontario

Last of its kind.

You are standing on your own private 2.4 acre island, on beautiful Christie Lake just 10 kms west of Perth Ontario. You look above the towering pines and there soars an eagle to its nest where 2 baby eaglets are waiting. The serenity and majesty of the setting is breathtaking. Perhaps that is why The Marks Brothers, Mary Pickford and other celebrities journeyed to Christie Lake.

Long island is the 3rd largest of 28 islands on Christie Lake. The lake itself has an irregular shoreline with many bays and inlets along its 6.2 km length and 2.2 km width. Long island runs parallel to an unpopulated north shore 300 meters away. It is close to the widest part of the lake and has elevated views 360 degrees, with a more gentle slope on the west side, for easy access. Your closest neighbor is past the eagle’s nest about 700 meters. Mind you there is a much smaller island about 60 feet due east that an adult could wade over to. But it’s only about 60 feet in diameter and serves only to add character and charm to your setting.

The lake is home to 20 species of fish, 3 commercial resorts, a marina for your boat and 280 families of cottagers actively working to keep Christie Lake in pristine condition through their Lake Stewardship Plan (www.christielakeassociation.com). You may want to plan a day trip into town (Perth) just 10kms away. Aside from their friendly manner Perth residents are fortunate to live in the town recognized as:

“The prettiest town in Ontario” – TV Ontario

“Greenest Town in Ontario” – TVO Honorable Mention

“The Best Place in Canada to Retire” – Chatelaine Magazine

“The Big Town of Festivals”

“The hub of tourism in eastern Ontario”

“The Prince of Wales Prize” – a national heritage award for architectural preservation

Then you get to return to the privacy and finest nature has to offer, on your very own island. Tomorrow’s just another day.
