Loon Island Washington, Washington

Just 30 miles north of Spokane, Washington, this pristine alpine lake was named after the loons that thrive in abundance. One of the largest lakes in the area, Loon Lake is perched between the mountains and is surrounded by towering pine, cedar and fir trees.

The lake is 2,400 feet in elevation and its crystal clear waters, sandy beaches, rocky cliffs and irregular shoreline add to its beauty and intrigue. The lake teams with life and provides excellent fishing for silvers, mackinaw (state record), German brown & rainbow trout (stocked yearly by the state), plus bass, perch and crappie. In addition to the local loon population, the lake has eagles, blue herons, swallows, killdeer, numerous duck species and a large number of other fowl. The surrounding mountains have a generous population of mule deer, white tail deer, elk, bear and an occasional moose has been seen swimming around the island. The entire area is a true outsdoorsman’s paradise.

Just after the turn of the century, the Fish family, attracted by the setting and mystique of the island, made arrangements to acquire the property. The reported price: approaching fifty dollars. Originally called “FISH ISLAND”, the Fish family used the island for picnics and family outings for the next 10 years while designing and constructing the stone lodge retreat you see today. Several generations of the Fish family enjoyed the property until the property was sold in the early nineteen sixties. In 1986 the island home was acquired by the current owners, Al and Karolyn Burrell. The Burrells spent the majority of the next year adding water, sewer, power and phone services to the home and skillfully and dedicatedly bringing the property back to its currently spotless condition. Upon completing the renovation, the property was first offered for rent on July 1, 1987. When not occupied by the owners, the property has been offered as a weekly rental since that time. The Burrells also acquired a “waterfront” 50 X 200 foot lot just 300 feet from the island.

The home was completed in 1923 and is of rock construction. The beautifully situated lodge has approximately 1,100 square feet of living area and features two bedrooms, an additional sleeping porch, a massive rock fireplace, covered porches, rock pillars, water purification system, community sewer, power and phone.

The 110ft. X 110ft. island is located approximately 200ft. from shore and 300ft. from the included shore front lot. The property has mature landscaping and an adjacent sandbar that creates a perfect swimming area. The included lakefront shore lot is approximately 50 by 200 feet. The buildable lot is nicely treeded, has its own dock and features all utilities The Silver Beach Association includes 48 acres above the subject properties. With its park like setting, the association property is available for the enjoyment of all association members. Association dues are $90.00 per year.
