Dunbar Rock, Honduras

The villa at Dunbar Rock is one of the Caribbean's most unique properties; truly one of a kind. It is so well known and unusual that it's featured in the Government of Honduras’ tourism advertisements and on its own postcard.

Dunbar Rock is currently operating as a dive resort, with excellent diving and fishing right off the dock. The coral reef is 100% private and the island lends itself to becoming a unique luxury private island. Dunbar Rock is ideal for those who want their own private island, yet want to be close to a major airport.

This beautiful historical landmark was once used as a mooring for the famous pirate Blackbeard. Local legend has it that there is buried treasure on the island. When the owner was constructing the villas, he discovered a hidden cave on the island. He found many pieces of pre-Colombian pottery, but sadly no treasure.

The island has a small oak forest that provides shade from the heat of the day. The garden is picturesque. The island is incredibly easy to access - only 10 minutes by boat from Guanaja Airport. The airport is 2 hours, via direct flight, from Houston, Texas. The flight path for the airport is on the other side of the island, so the island remains quiet and peaceful.

Dunbar Rock Villa is ideal as a private villa, retreat, or an investment for those looking to acquire a small business in the tropics.

The Villa

Dunbar Rock’s Villa has spectacular ocean views unique anywhere in the Bay Islands. The villa is perched atop a 30-foot-high rock pinnacle in the middle of Sandy Bay, barely 500 metres from the end of the main island’s dock. The bedrooms are so close to the ocean that you can literally fish out your front window, if you wish.

Delight in snorkelling or fishing off the dock. Or maybe just enjoy watching the exotic sea life from your balcony. During the evening, relax in the large living area, have a drink at the bar, listen to music, watch a movie, or simply soak in the stunning sunset from the observation deck. The Villa on Dunbar Rock offers privacy and majestic views of Caribbean. Because the cay is made out of rock, there are no pesky sand flies or mosquitoes.

The Villa stands three stories high and boasts 4 spacious, comfortably furnished guest suites with private balconies and baths. The structure is made of hardwood and specially treated cement to withstand the salt air.

The Villa took 2½ years to build because of the terrain's difficulty. Extra care and great attention to detail was taken to build it. There is room for expansion and the owner has a building permit to build 4 more rooms on the island.
