Celebrity, Movie Stars, The World's Most Exclusive Property (page 5)
James Bond films shot here (The World is Not Enough, Never Say Never Again,
For Your Eyes Only), along with other films such as Splash, Cocoon I and II,
Flipper, My Father the Hero, The Silence of the Lambs and the more recent After
the Sunset starring Pierce Brosnan and Salma Hayek and Into the Blue with Paul
Walker and Jessica Alba. Disney is purportedly scouting locations there for
the sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean (Johnny Depp was so taken with the beauty
of the area that he bought his own private island.) And to prove the point that
movie making is big business, the country hosted the first annual Bahamas International
Film Festival last December.
Croatia: The Dalmatian coast, with its close-hauled group of 1000 islands,
is the "new Riviera"; the Istrian peninsula, with its Italian looks
and flavours, is the "new Tuscany". The Eastern Adriatic Coast of
Croatia is a new hotspot for celebrities. With its relatively unspoilt islands
offering good value for money, better sailing than Turkey, and cuisine to match
Italy's, it is the hottest destination in the Mediterranean right now. Croatia
has found fast favour with the smart set following the end of the civil war.
Steven Spielberg, Pierce Brosnan, Andre Agassi, Gywneth Paltrow, Brad Pitt and
Sean Connery are all listed among the celebrity names to have holidayed along
the Croatian coast.
Greece: There are more than 1500 islands in Greece. Fewer than 200 are inhabited
and dozens are privately owned. It is the latest must-have holiday accessory
for the rich and famous: their very own island in the warm blue waters around
Greece. Greek islands provide privacy, sandy beaches and four months of glorious
weather every year. At least six are for sale.
