Mystery Island, Philippines

Features: This mysterious and pristine island surrounded by dozens of other beautiful islands, remote beaches, great diving, and snorkelling is only 45 minutes by speedboat from an airport with daily connecting flights to Manila. The present airport is due to be upgraded, concreted and extended. Mystery Island is most suitable for resort development.

Mystery Island is for those who seek privacy, tranquility and love nature, yet don’t want to be too remote from the outside world. The surrounding waters are home to rare Dugong, dolphins and hundreds of varieties of tropical fish. The beaches of the island are used as a nesting area by three species of rare and endangered turtle. The island also offers protection from strong waves, a spectacular long beach with soft white sand, and numerous palm trees and mature hardwoods.

A very long sandspit extending out from the island is lined on both sides by a magnificent tropical beach with the purest and whitest sand ever seen; far superior superior to the famed island of Boracay. This beach is very unusual on an island and is the island’s most beautiful feature. The beach's mature palm trees droop gracefully over the land in between the two beaches, lending shade to the area most suitable for development. Just few metres off the beach is a magnificent fringing reef, ideal for snorkelling. The corals surrounding the island are huge, colourful and in wonderful condition. Luckily, the remoteness of this island has protected it from the ravages of local traffic.

The combined length of the beach on both sides of the island is nearly 2 kilometres, making the beach half the size of the famed White Beach on Boracay where land goes for $333 per square metre - if you can find any for sale at all! Yet this entire island is selling for just $33 per square metre, a mere tenth of the price of Boracay.

The island also has a thick forest of diptercarps, virgin tropical rainforest and tropical fruit trees. The vegetation is rich and luxuriant and covers both the flat area of the island and its hills. The hills on neighbouring islands have largely been denuded.

Without the shadow of a doubt, this is a very suitable island for the positioning of a major international resort. Mystery Island is right in the centre of a beautiful archipelago - an area projected by both the Philippines Government and the Province of Palawan as a tourism development area. The 1995 JICA development report and the 1998 Palawan Tourism Development Structure report have both selected the islands of this bay as one of the prime tourism development areas for northern Palawan. Currently, the only other islands which are attractive or suitable for development have already been purchased.

Mystery Island really is a nature lover's paradise. With a bit of work, this already magnificent island could be turned into a virtual Garden of Eden.
