Ram Island
Ram Island, MaineRam Island is a spectacular 16 acre island with approximately one mile of coastline. The island has three stone beaches, a protected cove with a mooring and is accessible at any tide. This unspoiled island rises gradually to a height of 60 feet. It is all grass meadows and rock. In this part of Maine, near the Bay of Fundy, the tide is 19 feet. This makes for continuous changes in the shoreline in most dramatic ways. Ram is a real island that lies out in the ocean several miles from the mainland. There are breathtaking views of the sea and sky and other islands from everywhere on Ram. The Libby Island Lighthouse is just to the east. To the west and north are other islands and to the south is just the open ocean. One of the most important qualities that Ram offers is absolute privacy. Even though you can see other islands and the mainland, you are alone. There are no other dwellings visible in any direction. In today’s world this is becoming quite rare. Ram Island presents a turnkey opportunity. There is a building permit in place for a contemporary Vermont Modular home, the “Lake Louise.” This 1218 sq ft. home has a large sunken living room with a cathedral ceiling, three bedrooms, windows and skylights that fill the interior with light. Vermont Modular uses green technology wherever possible. Composting toilets, solar panels, water collecting systems, etc. all lend themselves to the particular requirements of island living. The building site is located on the side of the hill facing south towards the open ocean - a million dollar view! It doesn’t get better than this. Ram Island is located at the mouth of Machias Bay, just ten miles from the University of Maine college town Machias and just sixty miles from the spectacular coastal resort town of Bar Harbor. The island is a mere six hour drive from Boston. |
