Scott Island, British ColumbiaThis secluded and enchanting Island known as “Scott Island” is situated in Stuart Channel (Latitude 48° 58' N, Longitude 123° 41' W) in a North/South direction being about 4.8 kilometres (3 miles) North East of Chemainus, Vancouver Island in an area known as the 'banana belt' of the Gulf Islands of British Columbia. The Island Beautifully treed (Arbutus aka Madrona, Maple, Fir, Oak, Pine, Juniper) Scott Island is approximately 5.26 acres (2.13 hectares) being level and mostly in its Natural state with low bank frontage and sandy-shell beaches and interesting figurative sand stone outcroppings. There is casual landscaping - lawns, shrubs, pond, fruit trees immediately about the house. There are easy walking trails and easy ocean access throughout the island. The Island and the area have a great variety of marine, bird and wild life. The west side has a launching area for boats or equipment delivery via barge. There is also a Tennis court and six outbuildings. The self-contained Island, all buildings and equipment have been very well maintained. A major feature of the Island is the protected all tide Harbour! Oceanfront The inviting water frontage of 2,329.4 feet (710 metres) +/- (not including habour area) mostly with low bank and easy access walk on sandy-shell beaches and interesting figurative sand stone outcroppings. Suitable for children, small boats and kayaks plus excellent summer swimming. Harbour An impressive and substantial all tide and all weather harbour with breakwater. Extensive and substantial dockage (concrete floats) for large vessels. There is also a hydraulic crane for unloading equipment and supplies. The Harbour area being about 0.60 acre (0.24 hectare) and the Breakwater/fill area being about 0.73 acre (0.295 hectare). There is an Aquatic Licence in place which can be assumed. Very few properties have such a fine safe harbour! Area Stuart Channel (48°55’N., 123°37’W) leads from the north end of Sansum Narrows to Dodd Narrows and is bounded on its east side by Salt Spring, Kuper, Thetis, Ruxton and De Courcy Islands. The harbour facilities of Crofton, Chemainus and Ladysmith are on the west side of the channel. The area offers excellent boating, kayaking, swimming, diving, fishing, crabbing, shellfish plus a great variety or marine and birds life. The Chemainus area and the area south being Duncan and the area north being Nanaimo offer all amenities. Location The Island is located in Stuart Channel (Latitude 48° 58' N, Longitude 123° 41' W) about 3 miles (4.8 kilometres) north east of Chemainus on Vancouver Island and close to Thetis Island and two smaller Islands. Easily accessed by boat (private or water taxi), float aircraft, helicopter. The Island is approximately 35 miles (56 kilometres) from Vancouver and 46 miles (74 kilometres) from Victoria. There is a ferry service (B.C. Ferries) from Chemainus (population about 4000) to Preedy Harbour on Thetis Island (population about 450) from which it is only a quick boat trip to Scott Island. There is moorage at Chemainus (48°56’N.,123°42’W) on Vancouver Island and Thetis Island has two marinas in Telegraph Harbour (48°58’N.,123°40’W). |
