Situated in north eastern Namibia, our island is in the remote Kwando River - a permanent water source which nourishes delicate ecosystems and sustains varied game and bird life. Susuwe Island Lodge is built to incorporate the riverine forest - the main complex has lofty canopy viewing decks overlooking endless savannahs, glistening lily-studded wetlands and ancient Kalahari woodlands, as well as a fire pit, spacious lounge and dining areas, curio shop and small reference library. Six spacious brick and thatch suites equipped with double bathroom, bedroom, lounge and wooden viewing deck each with private plunge pool offer our visitors the opportunity to merge unhurriedly with Africa's timeless evolution of hazy days and star-studded nights. Mosquito nets, overhead fans and hairdryers, as well as generated electricity, are provided. For game expeditions, we drive in open 4 x 4 vehicles in the Bwabwata National Park. Game sightings in this river cradle could include vast herds of roaming elephant and buffalo, lions, hippos, leopards, sable, roan, lechwe and puku for example. Night drives at Susuwe offer an even closer insight into the intrigue of the African bush. There is outstanding bird watching in this area in a variety of riverine, floodplain and grassland habitats. Boating, nature walks, picnics, or infinite relaxation in the cool respite of Susuwe Island Lodge are all possible. Susuwe Island Lodge offers sedate cruises in the slow, meandering Kwando river, viewing game and watching birds within the Bwabwata National Park. Time spent with us will leave you with a wonderful insight into the unchartered cradle of rivers which we are privileged to be part of. Mokoro activities are not offered at Susuwe Island Lodge. Guided walks offer a closer insight into the ecological marvels of this area. At Susuwe, guests can closely experience Africa and the intrigue of the bush with a qualified and experienced guide. Afro-Botanical walks offer insight into the traditional medicinal uses of plants and trees. Susuwe Island Lodge overlooks the winding and intimate Kwando river, which meanders through the game-filled savannah of the Bwabwata National Park. Here in narrow channels of the Kwando hide silver tigers within subtle backwaters. Some Kwando river species include Tiger fish, African pike, Threespot tilapia, Redbreast tilapia, Pink happie, Humpback largemouth, Thinface largemouth, Nembwe, Brownspot largemouth, Sharptooth catfish, Blunttooth catfish and Silver barbel.
