Feature Island

Regional Information

Uganda has one of the fastest growing economies in Africa. Visitors arrive to see Uganda’s stunning mountains and its famous mountain gorillas. Northern Uganda is still off limits for safety reasons. Rebels are responsible for many crimes against civilians, and ethnic conflict and banditry are common. The southern parts of Uganda are considered safe. The southern region of Uganda also includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria – the largest tropical lake in the world and the most likely place to find private island property. This area has been politically stable for almost 30 years.

Foreign Ownership of Islands in Uganda, Africa

Foreign investors cannot own freehold property in Uganda, but they can hold land under a long term lease. If the land will be used for agricultural or livestock purposes, you must get government approval. The Ugandan land registry is outdated and operates without transparency, which can be a hindrance to investment. But the government has recently proposed plans to modernize and update the land registry.
