The ultimate in seclusion … 155 acres on the British Columbia Inside Passage, equidistant between Vancouver and the Queen Charlotte Islands. With its own private riparian (river-fed) freshwater lake, this one-of-a-kind presents a rare potential for an all-season luxury estate or private high-end fly-in fishing lodge, accessible only by swift boat, floatplane, or rotary wing.

Calvert Island is situated in the BC central Gulf islands. Located on Fitz Hugh Sound, with a view of 1,045-metre Mount Buxton, 20-mile long Calvert Island is climatologically temperate rain forest, filtered by 10,000 miles of ocean air, washed by the comparatively mild waters of the northern Pacific Ocean gulf stream. Provincial Conservancy Hakai Recreation Area covers the southern part of Hunter Island, all of Hecate Island, and the northern part of Calvert Island.

The property is situated on the west shore of Chic Chic Lake, 248 miles NW of metro Vancouver, 74 miles SW of Bella Coola, and 46 miles NW of Port Hardy (north end of Vancouver Island).

Hakai Lúxvbálís Conservancy is the largest provincial marine protected area on the British Columbia coast. Hakai has no developed facilities and can only be accessed by sea or air. Sited within the Hecate Lowland ecosection, which is represented by a large archipelago of outstanding natural beauty, Hakai boasts such special features as lagoons, reversing tidal rapids, tombolos, and white-sand beaches. With exposed shorelines, forested hills, a beguiling array of large and small islands, and all-weather anchorages, Hakai has a varied and scenic coastline. It is the dramatic contrast between marine and terrestrial landscapes that makes Hakai unique within the BC provincial park and protected area system.

With a two-mile hike (west or south) to open ocean and world-class scuba diving (Carrington Reef), at a tsunami-proof elevation of 40 metres, this untouched plot is completely surrounded by 300,000 square acres of Provincial Park and Crown land. The north end of Calvert Island hosts a privately-endowed ocean research institute. Except for that science facility, and three privately-owned, undeveloped small parcels (two are clear-cuts) several miles NE, otherwise the island is uninhabited.

Archeology

Per Canadian Broadcasting Company, fossilized footprints discovered on Calvert Island are thought to be the oldest known evidence of human habitation in North America (carbon-dating: 13,200 years). Modern history: Inside Passage first explored in 1788 by British fur traders, and in 1793 by Captain George Vancouver. In 1867, the British North America Act created the Federal Government of Canada.
