With its stunning three private beaches, large open grass areas and incredible variety of trees including native, pine and palm, Pakatua Island (Pakatoa Island) is a rare gem, just a stone’s throw from Auckland, New Zealand.
This freehold title island beauty is 24.0787 ha of land (approximately 60 Acres), with resort buildings and facilities that are prime for modern upgrades and further development or demolition.
Situated between Coromandel and Waiheke Island in the beautiful Hauraki Gulf, approximately 40km from downtown Auckland, the island used to operate as Pakatoa Island Resort, an iconic holiday and business conference facility. In recent years the Island has been closed to the public and used a private holiday destination for the vendor and his family.
The island has the potential with renovation to be transformed back into a holiday destination resort or exclusive business conference centre or alternatively remain a private haven for your family or group investment consortium.
Pakatua Island is one of very few islands privately owned in the Hauraki Gulf, as most islands are held by the Crown as reserve and used as public parks.
The buildings on the island are situated in the lower northern area, while the chalets are positioned on higher ground. The southern half of the island features open grassland.
Marine access to the island is serviced by a substantial wharf jetty and the island is serviced by a sealed road system.
The now somewhat aged buildings need refurbishment or demolition and replacement, they include a restaurant and coffee bar, takeaway foods, tourist bar and lounge areas with kitchen facilities, entertainment and conference centre, reception, offices, and shop. A swimming pool is also located within this area.
Staff amenities and facilities areas are supplied together with maintenance staff buildings and general storage buildings.
The old guest accommodation on the island consists of 24 beach side cabins and 38 2–3-bedroom units, all buildings constructed by Lockwood, a superior timber frame construction method unique to New Zealand, featuring natural timber interior finishing.
The 2–3-bedroom units boast majestic views and are fully self-contained on the slopes of the island.
Power is provided by a recently installed solar system and the two older diesel generators as backup power.
Fresh water is provided from four underground bores supplemented by rainwater collected from roof tops and stored in several large capacity tanks. A sewage treatment plant and drainage system has been constructed to specification for the existing size and use.
Recreational facilities include previously mentioned beaches and pool, golf course, 2 mini tennis courts, a bowling green, squash court, gymnasium and solarium. The property is presently supervised by a resident caretaker.
