Asia is home to some of the largest archipelagos in the world, but islands available for purchase are decidedly limited. Indonesia is the world's largest archipelago with over 18,000 islands to its name, but only a handful are ever available. The Philippines consists of over 7,000 islands varying widely in size, shape and especially price. Thailand also has a few islands located in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, but are quickly snapped up once they reach the market. There are a scant few freehold properties available in Asia for foreigners, but leaseholds are available in places like Indonesia. The Philippines is becoming an attractive property investment area as the laws continue to evolve, but one needs to consult a good lawyer when getting involved in island real estate in the Philippines.

Asia offers beautiful islands with sandy beaches, spectacular underwater scenery, and superb resort facilities. But be warned, monsoon season takes some getting used to.
