Islands for Sale in Central America |
 |
Central America is nestled between North and South America, with the east coast
bathed by the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea and the west coast facing the
Pacific Ocean. This region is finally experiencing some distance from its troubled
past; since the end of Central America's civil wars in the mid-90s, interest
has been growing in the region’s real estate. Political and geographic
barriers are breaking down throughout the region and its citizens are eager
to welcome visitors and investors alike. Central America’s east coast
offers surroundings similar to the Caribbean, at a fraction of the cost.
Costa Rica, with its thriving eco-tourism market, has been the 'it' country
of Central American real estate in recent years, but its mellowing neighbours
like Nicaragua, Honduras and Panama still remain largely under-developed because
of their damaged reputations. Savvy expats have been buying up islands in Belize,
some retiring and enjoying the relatively inexpensive standard of living and
tropical climate. Belize has the world’s second largest barrier reef and
its private islands make great villas or diving businesses. Property investment
is encouraged in Central America, but the area's market is still like the wild
west in many respects; due diligence regarding titles and possession must be
performed, with the emphasis on diligence.
