About Pylades Island


This enchanting Island known as “Pylades Island” is south of Ruxton Island and west of Valdes Island and is bounded by Trincomali Channel, Stuart Channel and Pylades Channel.

The property being offered is the East Side of the island consisting of two parcels 50.87 acres (20.58 hectares) and 15.58 acres (6.31 hectares) +/-.

The larger parcel has a small Islet at the North East corner. The island is beautifully forested (fir, cedar, arbutus aka madrona, maple, hemlock, juniper, oak, alder) and natural state having many varieties of native plants.

There is a small cabin and A-Frame cottage on the south end - they are not considered to be of any great value. The shoreline is rocky and has several coves and lovely beaches especially, the South Beach! The property is being offered “as one” and on an “as is” basis.

Stuart Channel (48°55’N.,123°37’W) leads from the north end of Sansum Narrows to Dodd Narrows and is bounded on its east side by Salt Spring, Kuper, Thetis, Ruxton and De Courcy Islands. The harbour facilities of Crofton, Chemainus and Ladysmith are on the west side of the channel.

The area offers excellent boating, kayaking, swimming, diving plus fishing (salmon, rock fish), crabbing, shellfish (clams and oysters) plus a great variety or marine life (whales/orcas, seals, otters, dolphins/porpoise) and bird life (eagles, herons, gulls, owls, kingfishers). The area is known for its moderate climate. The Chemainus area and the area south being Duncan and the areas north being Ladysmith and Nanaimo offer all amenities.

Pylades Island (southern most of DeCourcy Group) is situated in Stuart Channel (Latitude 49° 04' N, Longitude 123° 42' W) approximately 2.5 miles (4 kilometres) north-eastward of Yellow Point and 9 miles (14.5 kilometers) north of Chemainus on Vancouver Island. Easily accessed by boat (private or water taxi), float aircraft and helicopter. The Island is approximately 40 miles (64 kilometres) from Vancouver and 50 miles (80.5 kilometres) from Victoria.
