Martini Island
Martini Island, PanamaBecause of its striking beauty, Martini Island was an official Martini Holiday Island in the early eighties. The coralline atoll is located on the Caribbean side of Panama, near Colón (11 km/ 6,8 miles), about 800 m (about 2600 ft.) from the coast. There is a sand beach around the island totalling about 2 kilometres, dotted with palm trees. A string of islands stretches along the Caribbean coast of Panama, including the territory of San Blas Indian (Cuna tribe). Nearby Portobelo once was a treasure port looted by Sir Francis Drake, who according to legend, is buried on an island (“Drake Island”) close by. Portobelo has one of the most impressive (and undestroyed) maritime fortification systems. A hotel island (Isla Grande) is about 10 km (6.2 miles) away. The Panama City International Airport is about 80 km away. |
