Motu Tane
Motu Tane, French PolynesiaMotu Tané is a stunning little island just across the channel from the main island of Bora Bora, with its hauntingly romantic, twin-peaked profile. Thatched roof bungalows, with interiors by world-class designer Christian Liaigre, can accommodate up to 30 guests. There is nothing on the island but the resort, and it is rented to only one party at a time, so guests enjoy the ultimate in privacy for family gatherings, reunions of friends, or milestone birthday or anniversary elebrations. Water sports, including scuba diving and snorkelling, are world-class. Located just minutes by boat from the main island of Bora Bora in French Polynesia, Motu Tane is reached by convenient overnight flights from Los Angeles to Tahiti. From Tahiti, it is a 45-minute air hop to Bora Bora, where a representative from Motu Tane meets guests for the 10-minute boat ride to the private island. During their stay on Motu Tane, guests can easily boat across the channel to the main island for entertainment, shopping or other activities. Motu Tane is rented to just one party at a time and can accommodate up to 26 guests; if there are small children, the resort's capacity is slightly higher. There are two expansive master suites in one large, thatched-roof bungalow (called a faré) of 2500 square feet. These are stunningly decorated, each with a private entrance, king bed, spacious living area and grand bathroom. Two additional suites, one on the sunrise side of the island and the other on the sunset side, are in stand-alone fares. With two bedrooms each - one king-bedded and the other twin-bedded - and two baths, they are perfect for couples with small children. Each has a large teak deck facing the ocean. The nine remaining guest rooms are all in stand-along fares right on the beach, six on one side of the island and three on the other. These charming little bungalows are handsomely decorated, though simple, with mosquito-netted king beds and teak decks. Furniture is fashioned out of rare, dark African wenge wood. Motu Tane is perfect for the family or group of friends that wants to "rekindle." That can mean days full of activities or, conversely, nothing at all besides relaxing on the white-sand beach that encircles the island, or swimming in the stunning clear blue waters for which Bora Bora is renowned. Water sports are primary guest pasttimes. Snorkelling and scuba diving are exceptional, snorkelling on the nearby reefs and scuba in any one of several locations around the motu and nearby motus; the dive master is exceptionally helpful for both beginners and experienced divers alike. There is also a 36-foot Boston Whaler for local island exploring, and for whale and dolphin watching. Activities on the main island include four-wheel drive excursions in the hills or on the reefs surrounding the island, and car or scooter rentals. A gym is available with free weights and state-of-the-art multi station. In the evening, traditional Polynesian dance shows can be arranged, as can a Tahitian feast and barbeque, or ukulele and guitar entertainment. The dining room is in the main fare, designed in the style of the traditional gathering hall typical of French Polynesian villages. Adjacent to the large, comfortable living room with its floors and furniture of rare woods and stunning Christian Liaigre-designed furniture, the dining room has two enormous rare-wood banquet tables for convivial group dining. Alternatively, beach barbecues or romantic, torch-lit dinners on the beach can be arranged. Lunch can be taken on the coconut palm-shaded lawns between the main fare and the beach. There is always a breeze washing across the water and onto the island, cooling even the warmest of days. Motu Tane rents to only one party at a time, and the weekly (7-night) rate for up to 26 people, all inclusive, is $230,000. All meals and beverages are included, as are most on-island and water-sports activities. There is a state-of-the-art IDD telephone system, with hook-ups for computers in the living room and master suites, as well as satellite television in the living room. |
