The original 950 sqft cottage was built in the early 1900’s and was refurbished with thought and style in keeping with its original purpose and footprint while making it usable for at least two seasons. The main cottage has two bedrooms, a bathroom with sink, claw foot tub/shower and composting toilet. The living room is accessible from the front porch and opens to the bedrooms, bathroom, walk in closet and family room / kitchen. This open great room faces south with three walls of windows which allows for nice light and fantastic views of both sides of the Rideau. There is a separate 200 sqft guest cottage that sleeps four. Both have electric, insulation, double pane windows and fully finished pine walls. The island also has Wifi.
There is a large storage shed that also contains a stacking washer/dryer. The dry boat house near the water is great for storage. There is an outdoor shower and a gorgeous outhouse with window, tin ceiling, oak floor and granite toilet seat.
There is built-in docking on two sides of the island. The front dock which faces the deep-water channel is about 30 feet long and 10 feet wide, perfect for lounging and watching the boats cruise by. The second dock faces north and has just been re-decked with cedar and includes a 20x16 ft. boat slip. The full length of this dock is approximately 50 ft. and it's a great place for parking boats. The nearest Marina is about 3 miles away, with boat docking, boat storage, parking and gas. The Drummond/North Elmsley Township has a free public dock at the Rideau Ferry Bridge, also within 3 miles.
On the west side there is a removable docking system that sits out over the water. This area is the place to be for swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking or just relaxing with the water moving under you. Great daytime sun and breathtaking evening sunsets happen here.
Rothwells Island is near a half acre in size. The perimeter has lots of trees of many species which adds to the privacy yet doesn’t shut the sun out. Birds love to visit, loons are always calling and sometimes the bald eagles from the next island over fly by. This is truly paradise.
