InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa

Occupying a prime position on Motu Piti Aau, the "Islet of Two Hearts," the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa is a landmark of environmental innovation and island elegance, entirely separated from the mainland for a true private-island sense of autonomy. The resort is world-renowned for its pioneering spirit: it was the first resort globally to use deep-sea water for both its revolutionary cooling system and its celebrated spa treatments, drawing nutrient-rich water from more than 800 meters below the Pacific. Its 88 rooms and villas are icons of overwater living, each with glass floor panels and direct lagoon access beneath the gaze of Mount Otemanu. Please note: after twenty years of welcoming guests, the resort closed its doors on June 1, 2026 for a comprehensive top-to-bottom renovation.

Accommodations & Design — Guests choose from overwater villas with varying views across the beach, lagoon and mountain, all stepping directly from their deck into the tranquil lagoon. For the pinnacle of island luxury, the Teremoana Pool Villas offer up to 322 square meters of space with private infinity pools at the very end of the pier: an ultra-private resort within a resort. Interiors pair contemporary comfort with Polynesian character, and the overwater pontoons are angled toward the open horizon to maximize visual privacy.

Amenities & Inclusions — Deep Ocean Spa: The first thalassotherapy centre in the South Pacific, offering hydrotherapy, beauty rituals and overwater treatment rooms with glass floors, all harnessing deep-sea nutrients alongside ancient Polynesian healing techniques. Culinary Excellence: Three venues led by the signature Le Corail, a romantic gastronomic restaurant with the largest wine cellar in French Polynesia, where the executive chef's French degustation menu is paired by the sommelier; plus the Sands Restaurant facing Mount Otemanu and the Reef restaurant. The Lagoonarium: A protected on-site marine sanctuary for coral grafting and naturalist-led snorkeling among some 200 species of tropical fish. Activities: Kayaks, paddleboards and outrigger canoes, a glass-walled fitness centre, tennis courts, a PADI dive centre, scuba diving and sunset cruises on the surrounding reefs. Romance: The Secret Garden of Love and bespoke Polynesian wedding ceremonies arranged by the concierge team.

How Private Is This Island? — Access is strictly by boat, so the motu remains undisturbed by outside traffic. While the resort offers world-class scale, the overwater pontoons are laid out for seclusion, with villas angled to protect every deck and infinity pool from neighboring sightlines. For buyouts and grand gatherings, the entire islet becomes a self-contained private world wrapped by lagoon on every side.
