Ratua Island

Ratua Private Island is one of the most culturally unique resorts in the South Pacific. The property is a 100% non-profit endeavor, with all profits supporting the Ratua Foundation's educational projects for local children. The island's aesthetic is defined by its collection of 200-year-old teak villas, which were transported from Indonesia and painstakingly reconstructed in three distinct "villages" (Fish, West Point, and South Point). It is a "digital detox" sanctuary—there are no TVs and Wi-Fi is restricted to the Yacht Club—encouraging guests to spend their days exploring the island on horseback, swimming with the resort's 16 horses, or canoeing through nearby blue holes.

Accommodations & Design The 13–15 villas are authentic Indonesian works of art, featuring high vaulted ceilings and flow-through ventilation (no A/C is needed or provided).

Deluxe Beachfront Villas: Hand-crafted teak structures with private terraces and direct beach access. Most feature an external vintage bathroom connected by a short, covered "causeway."

Grand Beachfront Villa (Primary Suite): The island’s most expansive residence, accommodating up to 5 guests with a king bed and multiple singles, designed with a focus on seclusion and panoramic ocean views.

Beachfront Glamping Marquees: Luxury safari-style tents for those who want a "Serengeti-meets-Pacific" experience, complete with semi-outdoor showers.

Fish Village: A private cluster of three villas with an exclusive over-water lounge, ideal for groups traveling together.

Amenities & Inclusions The Ratua experience revolves around its organic kitchen and unique land-based activities:

The Yacht Club: The island's social heart, featuring a waterfront bar, a cinema, a games room, and the restaurant serving "garden-to-table" organic cuisine.

Sunny Spa: A spectacular 900 sq. ft. over-water spa featuring two private treatment rooms with glass-floor panels and an open-air lounge.

The Ranch: Home to more than 16 horses. The signature experience is swimming with the horses in the turquoise lagoon.

Marine Gear: Complimentary use of kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and snorkeling gear. The house reef is exceptionally healthy, with turtles often seen right from the villa decks.

How Private Is This Island? Privacy at Ratua is a core tenet. With only 13–15 villas spread across 146 acres, guests rarely encounter one another outside of the Yacht Club. The villas are tucked away in lush vegetation, ensuring that your "private beach" truly feels private. Access is strictly controlled via the resort’s private boat or the island’s own 700-meter private airstrip, which allows for direct charter flights. For high-profile groups, a Full Island Buyout provides a secure, "off-grid" sanctuary where the staff, the horses, and the entire marine reserve are dedicated to a single party.
