Pandan Island Resort is a pioneering eco-tourism destination established in 1986 on the west coast of Mindoro. Comprising a single 12-hectare tropical islet, the resort is engineered for "Robinson Crusoe" simplicity, operating almost entirely on solar power and maintaining a strictly low-impact footprint. It is widely considered the premier base for exploring the Apo Reef Natural Park—the largest atoll-like reef system in the Philippines—offering a raw, uncommercialized alternative to the high-density resorts of Boracay.
Accommodations & Design The resort’s 22 bungalows are built using traditional Filipino "Sawali" (woven bamboo), coconut lumber, and cogon grass thatch. Following a series of 2025/2026 refurbishments, the Superior and Family Bungalows now offer more solid foundations and expanded terraces while retaining their rustic character. The Budget Rooms (affectionately known as "The Bronx") provide basic beachfront shelter with shared bathrooms, catering to dedicated divers who spend the majority of their day underwater. There are no televisions or air conditioning units, with the design prioritizing natural sea-breeze ventilation.
Amenities & Inclusions Facilities at Pandan focus on marine conservation and authentic island living.
Gastronomy: The central restaurant follows a Filipino-European fusion menu. Dinner is served buffet-style, featuring fresh-caught seafood purchased daily from Sablayan fishermen and organic produce from the mainland.
Mariposa Diving: An on-site SSI/PADI dive center established in 1991, offering 90-minute boat safaris to Apo Reef and 12+ local dive sites including "Napoleon Wall."
Leisure: Complimentary use of kayaks for circumnavigating the island and paddleboards. The island’s interior is a lush primeval forest with walking trails for birdwatching and butterfly spotting.
Connectivity: Recently upgraded with Starlink Wi-Fi in the clubhouse area, providing reliable speeds despite the remote off-grid location.
How Private Is This Island? Privacy at Pandan is absolute and natural. Since the resort is the only inhabitant of the island, there are no public roads, no peddlers, and zero motorized traffic. While the resort welcomes day-trippers for snorkeling (who must pay an entrance fee and leave by 5:00 PM), the accommodation wings are strictly reserved for overnight guests. The bungalows are spaced widely apart, separated by dense bougainvillea and palm groves, ensuring that your only neighbors are the resident geckos and the sea turtles that nest on the northern beaches.
